MUSIC
It wasn’t my most productive year music-wise, but I am pleased with my output. Plus, as I mentioned previously, the lack of physical space to set all my gear up was… an obstacle. Nonetheless, I suspect my circumstances in 2022 will allow me to have an easier time producing.
I haven’t performed since 2019 but I am already booked for a show in March 2022.
The following is an overview of my 2021 releases.
TEMPLE OV SATURN
Temple ov Saturn - The Rites of Janus
Sonic allegories of the passage of time, moving from one phase to the next. Songs about the threshold. An album to honor Janus, Roman god of doors and gateways, new beginnings and endings, and passage of time. This was my first release of 2021. In hindsight, it laid the ground work for what was to come. 2021 involved wrapping up a lot of loose ends. That was with me all year… everything I was doing felt like I was putting certain things to rest, while also sowing the seeds of what comes next.
Temple ov Saturn - Hide // Seek
Some albums, like The Rites of Janus, are more thought out… there’s more of a ritualized intention behind them… and then there’s material like this that are more like spontaneous mediations on a subject. They serve different functions. Hide // Seek is a meditation on the 3rd and 12th houses of the zodiac… I have a lot going on in those houses.
Temple ov Saturn - Quartet For The End Of Time
This album was loosely inspired by the French composer Olivier Messiaen. Messiaen composed his Quartet for the End of Time while he was a prisoner of war in a German prison camp in WWII. Thematically, Messiaen’s Quartet is apocalyptic and Biblical. I used his descriptions of each section of the Quartet as prompts for my own compositions. Read more about Messiaen’s Quartet here.
Temple ov Saturn - Meditations II
A continuation of Mediations. This album and its predecessor are a little bit different stylistically. The compositions are quite long, intended to be a soundtrack to your inner journey. Part 1 is one of my most popular releases.
Temple ov Saturn - Mysticism at the Dawn of the Modern Age
Its all over the place, but maybe that’s the point.
Temple ov Saturn - Seeing What Remains
The final release of the year came to being while I was in the middle of a very hectic time filled with anxiety and unknowns. I had a lot of nervous energy that needed to be grounded.. so voilà. Most of my work is transformative in some way or another, whether I’m grounding anxiety, or transmuting grief into beauty, death into life… Seeing What Remains is the where I’m at when everything’s been shaken up and now the dust is beginning to settle… and I can see what’s left and what’s ahead.
Revelations of the Chronovisor - #1
Revelations of the Chronosvisor is a side-project that didn’t really turn out the way I envisioned. I will revisit this project at some point and do it the right way.
Thanks to everyone who checked out my music this year. Not my best year music-wise, but there’s some good stuff in there if you have the patience to dive in.
Thank you for your attention and your support. Stay tuned for Part 3…
Best regards,
🌹 Joan 🌹
